Public Safety Officers’ Benefits Program
Eligibility
Families of firefighters who sustained a fatal in the line of duty injury are eligible for a one-time death benefit, based upon the federal government’s hierarchy of payment under Public Safety Officer death benefits. Firefighters who are permanently and totally disabled as the result of an in the line of duty injury are also eligible for benefits. These benefits also include education benefits for dependents.
Public Safety Officer Benefits are for firefighters catastrophically or fatally injured as a result of an on the job injury. For eligible deaths and disabilities on or after October 1, 2020, the PSOB benefit is $370,376.00 and the educational assistance benefit for one month of full-time attendance is $1,265.00.
